When we moved out here over 20 years ago, our neighbor across the street used this land as pasture for his beef cattle. Now we have learned, the profit from raising cattle has fallen, and raising crops is more cost beneficial. So a couple of years ago, in the fall, our neighbor plowed up his pasture for crops. He plants alfalfa in the fall and harvests it in the spring, and then plants corn and harvests it in the fall. Now it’s spring again, and he’s harvesting this year’s alfalfa.
First he uses a mower on the front of his tractor to mow all the alfalfa down. Then he blows the alfalfa into trucks that follow along beside his tractor. He uses 3 trucks, and they speed off down the road as soon as they are full, and an empty truck takes its place. Now he will plow up the land and plant corn, and we will watch the corn grow all summer.
