Digging out Ugly Brown Iris – Part 3

It’s that time again, the iris bulbs came in the mail, and Al and I needed to dig out two more big clumps of the ugly brown iris, and plant the new, pretty iris in its place.  This is the third year that we’ve done this, and our flower bed is looking better every spring.  Last spring I took pictures of the two clumps that we were going to dig out this year.

I also took a picture of the bloom up close, just to remind me how ugly this iris is – LOL!

Then we went to work.  Here is how the 2 clumps of iris looked before we started digging them out.  I’m glad that I took a picture of them when they were blooming this spring because there is no way that you can tell what color these are now.

This year it only took us an hour and a half to dig these clumps out, compared to 2 hours last year – yea!  And this year I did NOT break any of my fingernails, I was so happy.  However, my hands, arms, legs, feet, and backside were muddy and I had several bad scratches on my hands and arms from the rose bushes.  But it was worth it – and I think that we have only 2 more big clumps to dig out!

About sunflowerswank

After working all of my life, I retired in June, 2011. I try to use my extra time to rest, exercise, paint my fingernails, play with my 9 cats, spend time with my husband, Al, and cook healthy and lower fat recipies for us to eat. I try to use as many fruits and vegetables in my menus as I can cram in, sometimes to the complaints of the hubs - LOL! I am also making over some of my old favorites to be heathier with more vegetables in them, and less fat.
