New Running Shoes

I bought some new running shoes.  For the past 3 years I have been running in a pair of Vibram Five-Fingers KSOs which I really like except for a couple of odd things.  I do really like running in them, I like the way that they make you run in a more natural form, and I really like the “barefoot” feeling in my feet and legs when I run, but I just don’t like wearing shoes with no socks.  And I don’t think that there is any way that I could fit a pair of socks into these shoes, even socks with toes in them.  The other thing is the sole of the VFFs is so thin that I could feel every little tiny grain of sand on the road when I stepped on it.  I think that my feet think that they are the “Princess and the Pea” because every teeny rock that I stepped on felt like it was going to pierce my foot and really hurt!  Here they are:

So I did some research, and found these – Merrell Barefoot Run Dash Glove.  In Lychee!  I can wear socks with them, and the soles are about twice as thick as the Vibrams – so I don’t feel the little rocks anymore.  I think that not having to watch so carefully for rocks will let me run more relaxed.  They also have a little bit more support, due to having laces, I think.  And they have zero ball to heel drop and a nice large toe area so I still have the barefoot style running feel.  I’ve run in them twice so far and I Love them!  Each pair weighs almost exactly the same – about 10 oz. – so I haven’t felt any difference running, except, of course, no sharp rocks!  And today I beat my best time by one minute!  Win!  And, needless to say, these new shoes are much hotter looking.

About sunflowerswank

After working all of my life, I retired in June, 2011. I try to use my extra time to rest, exercise, paint my fingernails, play with my 9 cats, spend time with my husband, Al, and cook healthy and lower fat recipies for us to eat. I try to use as many fruits and vegetables in my menus as I can cram in, sometimes to the complaints of the hubs - LOL! I am also making over some of my old favorites to be heathier with more vegetables in them, and less fat.

I am with you. I ran in my Vibrams for about a couple years and when I started to up my mileage I had to invest in some Asics. I do still run in my Vibrams for anything under 3 miles, but anything over and I bring out the tennies.
