I made myself a Skirt

A couple of months ago I was thinking about my favorite pair of shorts.  I have had them for probably 25 years (!) and believe it or not, they still are in fashion and they still fit.  They are made out of a kinda faded black and white pattern of leaves and flowers, like a Hawaiian print or maybe batik.  I really like black and white and I wear black as often as I can, and these shorts really go with everything.  So I was thinking that I would really like another pair of shorts similar to these, especially since these are so old, and I’m afraid that they will just disintegrate one time when I wash them.

I found an internet site that sells fabric, and they had so many great patterns that I just couldn’t make up my mind.  And then I noticed that if you purchased a certain amount you got – Free Shipping!  I just can’t resist free shipping.  So I spent hours browsing this site, and finally settled on four different patterns to make two skirts and two pairs of shorts and I submitted my order.  The material came very quickly (Yeah UPS!), and I was very happy with my haul.

I decided to make a skirt first, since they are easier than shorts, and I picked my least favorite pattern just in case I totally screwed it up.  And since nothing is ever easy, and since I hadn’t used my sewing machine for a dozen years or more I had to get it serviced which took a couple of weeks.  But I finally picked up my sewing machine, and got to work and made my skirt!

I love the bright colors in this skirt

Wow – and this is my least favorite pattern!  The skirt was really easy to do – the hardest part was hemming it up by hand.  This material is very delicate, so I wasn’t able to use the sewing machine hemmer.  And now I ‘m ready to start on the rest.  I’ll post pictures of them, too.

About sunflowerswank

After working all of my life, I retired in June, 2011. I try to use my extra time to rest, exercise, paint my fingernails, play with my 9 cats, spend time with my husband, Al, and cook healthy and lower fat recipies for us to eat. I try to use as many fruits and vegetables in my menus as I can cram in, sometimes to the complaints of the hubs - LOL! I am also making over some of my old favorites to be heathier with more vegetables in them, and less fat.
